Many of us utilize some sort of to-do list to help check off the tasks we feel need to get done. This is usually a successful way of accomplishing many things throughout our days. The downside is that many put too much on their list. Another negative is it is often not ordered properly.
A good to-do list should start with your most important task. The #1 objective that needs to get done in order for you to reach your goals, become successful, and live a happy life. Only after this project is completed can you move on to #2, which should be the second most important task for the day.
I often create to-do lists and just start with the easiest item. What can I get done right now with little effort? From there I move on to another simple task on the list. I continue to put off the larger or more important items. I justify it in my head saying I'm building momentum or am clearing up mental space so I can concentrate better later on. In actuality, I'm just putting it off.
As you create your to-do list make sure you prioritize. What is most important? What must be done now to further your career, health, or relationships? We all have chores that eventually need to get done. Unfortunately they keep coming back week after week so waiting a few hours or a couple days isn't going to make a difference in the long run. Focus on what matters, what's important, and what will bring you the most value.
