Mobility is defined as "the ability to move". Maintaining movement quality is important if we want to be healthy and fit throughout our lives. A key range of motion that is often lost in today's world, is the ability to squat. Due to the amount of sitting, along with HOW we sit (on chairs and couches), many people lose mobility through their hips and ankles. When we become immobile and stiff through these joints, we lose the ability to properly squat.
For the month of December I will be participating in Ido Portal's 30 Day Squat Challenge. The image below describes the challenge in detail, but the goal is to accumulate a total of 30 minutes in the bottom of the squat position for 30 consecutive days. You can break the 30 minutes up however necessary.
Now, if you are not very mobile to begin with, I'd suggest starting with 5 minutes of squatting throughout the day. This number is more manageable and allows the body to adapt to this new range of motion at a slower pace. If you are willing, join me in taking this challenge and improving our mobility!
