I am a Missouri State Bears basketball fan. Yesterday my wife and I had the pleasure of attending the game. It was a battle back and forth. The opposing team would get a few points ahead and we would come back. This occurred several times leading up to the final seconds.
With less than 10 seconds left the Bears had just made a free throw to close the gap to 2 points. Our opponents were attempting to throw the ball in under our basketball. Thanks to soe great defensive pressure one of our players was able to steal the pass briefly, but a scramble ensued when the ball got knocked loose. Bodies were flying through the air and sliding across the floor. A senior on our team was able to control the loose ball behind half court. With practically no time left he turned, dribbled, and launched a shot from half court.
He made it. We won the game. The team and crowd went absolutely wild.
This game leads to a couple lessons.
First, never give up. If there is a will there is a way. Keep fighting until the end and if you want something bad enough you will create a way to make it happen. Combining belief and hard work has a compounding effect that is hard to stop.
Second, emotional highs and lows are worth it when your passionate. Being a true fan of a sports team or as part of a loving relationship makes those special moments so much more meaningful. Halfheartedly being part of something is a safe way to avoid and miss out on the emotional roller coaster that life naturally entails. Without experiencing these emotions though we aren't living life to the fullest. To find the peaks of joy and happiness you must find what you're passionate about and take a deep dive into it.
