When the going gets tough some people cower. They run away in fear, take cover, and hide. They don't stand their ground, defend their opinions, or fight for what they believe in.
Others stand so rigid there is no middle ground. It is only black and white. I'm right, you're wrong. Any differing opinion is ludicrous, treason, and punishable by death.
Often times, answers are found in the middle. But in order to reach the middle, people must be flexible and courageous. You must engage in prudent and thoughtful discussion. You have to be willing to listen and understand every angle of a debate. You have to hear both sides of the story. Insults, insinuations, and ignorance has no place in compromise. These only lead to stand-offs, lack of progress, and more tension.
If we hope to ever make true progress we must rid ourselves of labels, think freely, and communicate intelligently. We must be willing to keep an open mind, a non-judgmental attitude, and think deeply.
Without a strong belief in yourself you will never reach the levels of success and happiness you want or are able to attain. Once you've reached adulthood, no one is there hold your hand, flower you with compliments, or tell you how great you are on a daily basis.
Sure, family and friends will offer encouragement from time to time, but ultimately creating a confident person who believes in your capabilities falls solely in your hands. It's not anyone else's job to build up your confidence, self-esteem, or constantly reassure you.
The power of belief is a life-changing skill that you must develop. Life isn't about luck. Life isn't about waiting for the right moment. Life is about believing in who you are, what you do, and how you do it.
Once you have developed this skill, the possibilities are endless. Any goal or desire you have is within reach. When you believe you can do it and act as if you have done it then it will be done.
Accepting responsibility + Knowing Goals + Believing = A formula for success
If you find yourself lacking motivation when you begin your days an affirmation or mantra may be just what you need. Yesterday, on a bit of a whim, I wrote the below affirmation. My goal is to read through it each and every morning 3-5 times. I find it personally motivating and inspiring. It lights a bit of a fire in my mind and excites me for the day ahead. If you find it energizing and invigorating when you read it feel free to utilize it, or a similar declaration, as your daily dose of motivation.
I acknowledge my biggest fear in life is failure. Failure to succeed, to please, and to support the life of my dreams. This fear, from this moment on, will have no power over me. I deserve every dream, goal, and desire I have. I will earn all the success and happiness I can imagine. I will persevere and overcome any obstacle because nothing can keep me from thriving today. My life will be full of riches. My life will be an abundance of happiness and gratitude. Today, and everyday after, I will be the greatest version of myself. I will be the best human being I am capable of. I will achieve all that I set forth to. I am unstoppable.
Smiling is a potent factor in living an amazing life. We smile when we feel joy, find happiness, or experience something that amuses us. In many cases, you can get "too much of a good thing". When it comes to smiling, I don't think you can ever over do it. Too much joy? Too much happiness? Too much love? Too much laughter? Please. These are the simple emotions that bring forth a smile.
A life full of smiles is a life well lived I would say. Along with our search for happiness, love, and the meaning of life, search for smiles. Search for the moments and actions that lead you to that glowing, contagious, jubilant smile you possess.
Throughout life you will have opportunities that challenge you, situations that test your boundaries, and circumstances that make you uncomfortable. My advice is to jump in head first, accept these challenges face-to-face, and see how far you can push your comfort zone. These are the moments that test your character and help you grow into a better person. They can be scary, nerve-wrecking, and down right terrifying at times, but in the end its worth it.
Today at work I was asked to do both a radio interview and a television interview. I am not comfortable in these situations. I get nervous, my heart begins to race, my throat dries up, and my palms get clammy. Instead of avoiding it and declining to speak, I jumped in. While I was very anxious throughout the process, when it was all said and done, it was an exciting experience and I'm glad I did it.
The easy path is easy, but it leads you down a road where life is less fulfilled.
"I am" are two of the most influential words in the English language. These two words can completely flip our mindset. They can restore confidence or break us down. What determines the outcome of these two words are the word choices we choose to put after them. If you complete the sentence "I am..." with negativity, criticism, or hate then you are filling your mind with those attributes. You are are reinforcing those emotions and thoughts as part of you. If you choose words that give you strength and confidence, you become a stronger, better person.
Think for a moment what adjectives you would like to best describe you...
Write the ones down that you feel the most pull towards; the ones that when you repeat them out loud make you smile and sit up taller. These are your magic words. These are the ones that are the most needed and influential in your life.
The next step is to write them down as part of your "I am" affirmation.
I am confident.
I am successful.
I am beautiful.
From here, read them each day. Make it a part of your morning routine to set-up your day for success. Read and repeat them whenever you start to feel doubt or a lack of confidence in your life. The more often you affirm these statements the greater the results. These powerful declarations can be transformative. They can help rewire your brain to become the person you crave to be.
According to the dictionary, faith can be defined as "confidence or trust in a person or thing." If you were to ask 10 different people to define faith you would probably get 10 different answers. The replies would delve into religion, loyalty, and belief in one's self.
Faith can mean a variety of different things to different people, but in my opinion, faith is something we all need. The way you personally view, define, and practice faith must be individualized. It must be done in a way that strengthens and guides you through life.
Life is never easy. There will always be times where we hurt or have our backs against the wall. With faith we can overcome these situations. When we have belief in ourselves, family, friends, religion, or the universe it empowers us to overcome and succeed. Faith provides comfort and confidence. Faith gives us hope and guidance.
Find your faith. If you can do that, you can do anything.
Life is an emotional roller coaster. Each and every one of us has our highs and lows. The moments that bring us great joy and happiness are amazing. The euphoria is wonderful. But on the opposite end of the spectrum are the lows. The periods of time where all hope may seem lost. The moments where motivation is no where to be found. The intervals where the world seems to be out to get us. These are the stages that we must fight back against.
When sadness, depression, and anger overwhelm us, it is in these times we must battle back with everything we've got not to be consumed by the darkness. It is in these stretches that we must double down on everything that we are truly blessed with in our lives. The downs are when our gratitude, optimism, and loved ones become more important than ever.
I would argue no matter how bad life seems there are always bright spots. There are always people or possessions we are fortunate to know or have. The darkness can cover these aspects up if we allow it, but we must exhibit resilience and defy the negative emotions. Focus on who and what you have as part of your life. The act of counting your blessings can be a life saver. Everyone's situation is different, but we each have something to be grateful for. Parents, kids, spouses, or friends that care about us. Food, shelter, clothing, or water to keep us alive. Fresh air to breath or glowing sunshine to keep us warm. Past memories or opportunities that provide hope, motivation, and a will to fight on.
When your back is against the wall and hope seems lost, do not cower. Fight to reclaim your life. Find your will to thrive.
We are each more powerful, more capable, and more talented than we can imagine. For too long we have let life put limits on us. For too long we have allowed people to hold us back. For too long we have been scared to break free from comfort in order to find freedom.
Freedom from restrictions placed on us. Freedom from those who do not believe in us. Freedom from fear of what could be. This lack of confidence has no place if we want to reach the apex of our abilities, to find the peaks of what we are capable of, to hold the power that is deep within each of us, right in our hands.
This talent is within all of us. We each posses the power to solve, to create, and to love. Each and everyone of us can solve the most complicated of issues. All of us can create solutions to our problems. Every individual has the ability to love themselves. If we can solve, create, and love then we can anything we set our minds too.
A positive outlook is a vital part of a happy life. Negativity has no place. Negativity brings you, and those around you, down. Negativity is toxic.
A positive outlook leads to success, progress, growth, and confidence in oneself.
When you believe in yourself you can create the world you want. You can reach any goal you set.
In life there will be times you'll suffer and be uncomfortable. Positivity will pull you through.
Stay positive. If you can do that, you can do anything.
