We love shiny new things. We are drawn to "innovative" and "state-of-the-art" technology. We are readily excited to hop on the latest fad.
But it's the basics that deliver to us the happiness and success we truly crave.
With the innate desire to find significance and be part of a tribe, it tends to be the latest and greatest options that attracts us. We want to buy the newest phone and drive the newest car. We want to try the diet that all the fitness magazines are publicizing and experience the latest workout to sweep across gyms.
It's instinctual, but it's wrong.
Time and time again life has proven it's not about having the "best" or "most" of something, but rather having "enough".
History repeats itself. What is new, was once old.
Through time, we have learned that the basics will endure the wrath of time and continually come back. There are principles and practices that reign supreme through the past and into the future.
Focusing on mastering these will lead to a good life, not constantly jumping around to something new.
For nutrition, whether it's low-carb, low-fat, Atkins, paleo, or vegan, success stems from focusing on whole foods.
For exercise, whether you like running, yoga, bootcamp, or bodybuilding, success stems from consistent movement and activity.
For relationships, whether it be a friendship or marriage, communication and quality time is what determines the outcome.
Through life you will be pulled, tempted, and influenced every which way you can imagine. Resist the urge. Stick with the basics and success will find it's way to you.
